If The Little Things Helped The Big Things, Would You Do Them?
I’ve recently discovered that if you do the little things, the bigger things seem to fall into place. What do I mean by that. Well, it’s like this when I meditate good things seem to happen, I feel more relaxed and I seem to only attract positive energy. However when I don’t meditate I can’t seem to go forward and feel like my life is slipping away from me. So, is it the meditation that is helping me or is it more than that?
I can answer that one for you very easily. When I meditate I get to have time out. I get to lie down and I get to focus on more positive things and allow the negative things to come into my mind but simply fall away again, without giving them any weight. I have this sacred time just for me, where I become calmer and I retreat to a special place in my mind that makes me feel safe and in control. It is this time spent with no-one hassling me and no-one placing demands on me that seem to transform my attitude and my energy levels to a more uplifting and positive state.
So, therefore should I meditate every day. Well, yes I guess I probably should, but sometime I just cannot be bothered or can’t even seem to find 5 minutes to myself. Besides it’s not just meditation that helps me, there are other things that I need to do on a regular basis to help me feel more positive and focused in my life. Setting goals and keeping a diary are also an enormous help.
Setting goals on a monthly, quarterly and annually basis help me to see how I am tracking in life. They help to get me from A to B and help me focused on my plan. These goals are a godsend in giving me direction in life and letting me see where I can improve my life and what changes need to be made. Sometimes, I adjust these goals to suit where I am at that point in time and what else I need to achieve. I figure that goals are meant to be made, to be changed, improved upon and then ultimately achieved. Goals give us all direction and help us to see where we need to be and where we are headed. Goals help to give our lives purpose. Goals help to keep us motivated. All we have to do is write them down and then remember to look at them on a regular basis and re-assess them when we need to.
Keeping a diary too is a wonderful thing. This helps to remind me of the good things that I have done and makes my life feel more worthwhile. When we are constantly rushing around and life is going so quickly it is good to know that good things do still happen and we need to reflect on these things more, rather than just always focusing on our busy lifestyle and our work. It’s the precious time spent with our children or time spent going out with family and friends or even doing something just for ourselves that we need to remember and that we need to embrace in order to make ourselves appreciate how incredible life can be. After all, I am nearly approaching 40 and I want to have lived a life of little regrets and many many worthwhile and and rewarding times.
So, that’s why I do the little things in order to make the bigger things, like life more worthwhile and worth remembering. I suggest that if you are feeling ‘flat’ and need a little direction or guidance that you too should consider setting goals, doing some meditation and keeping a diary of all the wonderful things that happen in your life. Believe me, it will make a difference to how you feel and what you get out of your day
